Cover Love Sunday #5

Cover Love Sunday is a weekly feature hosted at The Quiet Girl Talks, where you choose your 3 favorite covers for each weekly theme. Anybody can do it, just check the Features page for themes ahead of time! :)

This week's theme is...
SIMPLE COVERS!

Simple Covers I love a good simple cover they can speak so much louder sometimes than a more elaborate cover don't you think? A piece of silk, a flower, butterfly, a dagger, or even just a letter even without a lot else going on the background. A simple silk gray tie, hint, hint, I know you know what book I'm talking about with that one.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)  Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2)       Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3)

Yes Fifty Shades...hey their simple covers aren't they, lol. Elaborate reads but simple covers I love that each one has something that you'll see in the book. Christian's oh-so-famous tie, the mask Ana wears to the party, and handcuffs which can actually represent two different happenings in the book one a every sexual scene the other when someone goes to jail. I don't suggest reading them if your single or don't have a 'special' friend though you wont like that frustration, lol.

Ironside (Modern Faerie Tales, #3)
I've read Tithe it was the cover that always attracted me to it whenever I was it however it was hard to get into. I haven't read Valiant or Ironside but do want to I like all the covers but this in is my favorite their all simple this one two though there is a bit of detail in the background but I think it can still pas for simple I love that crown just love it the colors are so vibrant. I read synopsis of this one and Roiben is getting coronated in the faerie realm so its only fitting the theres a crown on the cover.

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)

I've heard some good things about this book apparently its a future telling retelling of Cinderella I like that theres like a spot light on the leg and  black everywhere else and that you can see in the leg. I also like the font for the title.  The other cover are nice to but thought this one more 'simple'

Well those are my picks this week what are the simple covers you would pick?

Wonderfully Wicked Read-A-Thon

This post I'll be updating each day with my reads during the read-a-thon.

WWReadathon
This read-a-thon is hosted by My Shelf Confessions and there is still plenty of time to sign up!

Goals
  • Visit and comment at least 4 other blogs a day
  • Read at least 8 books(including short e-books)
  • Hopefully do a challenge

Updates

Oct 11th - Finished last 120 pages (or so, I think) of Bonded by Nicky Charles. I didn't know about the read-a-thon till later in the day so I didn't visit any blog

Oct 12th - I was mostly typing up a post and going about on goodreads for most of the day and I was busy with a few other things aswell so I didn't get hardly any reading in.

Oct 13th - Finished last 100 pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, been rereading it off and on so thought what better time than in between books and to get over how Bonded ended to finish it.

Oct. 14th - 15th - Well I am finding it hard to stay motivated this read-a-thon I don't why, and in fact I've been very, very tired especially yesterday so sorry to say but I didn't get very much reading in the past couple days. But I plan on making up for that today already have my coffee and hopefully I read a whole e-book today.

Oct. 16th - Didn't read Wind and Shadow by Tori L. Redgwood as fast as I wanted to but I got about half done. But was enjoying it

Oct. 17th - Read other half of Wind and Shadow will have a review soon. Since I was trying to dedicate all my time to read to make up for not reading I didn't go to any blog I plan on going to some today.

Oct. 18th - I did visit a few blogs will list below. Did the Jigsaw Challenge. Didn't read much had to help a neighbor with something, actually helping my neighbor was one reason why I have read or went to many blogs much this week.

Oct. 19 - There were a few thing in Wind and Shadow I want to reread make sure I understood what I was reading after I got to thinking about it, you how sometime if your reading a book a bit fast does anyone else feel like they missed something after a while and feel like you have to go back, or is it just me, please don't let it just be me.

Oct. 20th - Today is the last day and I'm going to visit some blogs for the most part as well as write my review for Wind and Shadow cant believe I read only one full book and only finished the other 2 but I suppose with how many pages I read from those two book it could count as one full book as well. And hey they did stick to the theme of the read-a-thon I thought. After all it's October, theres a witch on the read-a-thon button. The books I read Bonded was about lycans(werewolves), Harry Potter ofcourse we all know that witches and wizards. And Wind and Shadow is really a Halloween read which I'll elaborate more in my review why, but it had witches and vampires.

Cover Love Sunday #4

Cover Love Sunday is a weekly feature hosted at The Quiet Girl Talks, where you choose your 3 favorite covers for each weekly theme. Anybody can do it, just check the Features page for themes ahead of time! :)

This week's theme is...
YA BOOKS!

This week covers I've picked

The Final Eclipse (Daughters of the Moon, #13)

I like the cover because it's the last in the series I've read the all of them its a good series each cover is similar it has a girl and an element of sorts in the background making each one different but the same this one was pretty much the wrap up book in the series and I think its great that  the cover kind of represents that because as you see theres 6 girls on the cover well those are from the previous books in the Daughters of the Moon series, think goddesses.

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1)The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, #2)The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3)

Now the reason I'm showing all three of these cover is not particularly because of the covers themselves, though I do like them there very unique, but with these covers if you turn them on the side you get:
His Dark Materials Trade Paper Boxed Set: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #1-3)
I love when a book cover does that when its a trilogy or series and has a picture or words on the spine.

Spells out: His Dark Materials

For my last pick a more recent and popular book at the moment

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2)
I like the fog which makes the building seem farther away, the clothes really sets the time period, form what I understand Infernal Devices take place the 1700's or 1800's and each cover show that too. What I really like is that this cover is dark there only little slashes of 'light' and the only real 'color' is the gold of the dragon head on the staff, it kinda look like fire it you don't look to closely

There are so many more I could probably share with you as YA books often have the best covers, why, because younger adults look at covers first, its like food with kids, if they see it and like the way it looks they'll pick it up, lol.

Whats your picks?
Hope you enjoyed~

News, New Books, Read-A-Thon

Hey everyone, so I have completely been neglecting my fellow bloggers and checking their reviews and updates and my goodreads groups and for that I'm sorry. I guess I still need to learn time management. I really want to give you readers more than just book reviews of the books I read, and I don't want to get caught up in doing just book tours all the time either as I've noticed with a few bloggers, I'm sure not on purpose. However I'm not on any of the blog tour sites yet I do know of a few out there and do want to sign up for one of them, let me ask you which one do you like?

So tomorrow is Sunday which means Cover Love Sunday and the theme is YA books, already picked out one need to think of a couple more for you.
I'm am trying to find features and memes I think I can keep up with but so many are for the new book they've got new books coming out, and I'm not able to make weekly or even biweekly book hauls, though believe me I wish I could, nor am I fully aware of all the new books coming out sad to say but true, yes I have my eye on some but still, heck I'm still working on reading books that came out 4 years ago so whats that say, also so many series are out there and I'm prone to find each and every one of them I swear. I understand the meaning of a diamond in the rough and you want to know what it means, thats what a stand alone book is, lol.

I have been on an e-book frenzy lately though, free e-books, even though I don't have an e-reader using my laptop. Ive been reading a series Law of the Lycan by Nicky Charles so far there are five books and I've read four of them The Mating, The Keeping, The Finding are one timeline I just finished Bonded which is 0.5 of the series and in a different timeline surrounding different events and Betrayed: Days of the Rouge is its sequel and I think I'm going to be taking a little break before I read that one because, and I'll elaborate more in my review for Bonded, but I didn't like how it ended and I just need to soak that in for a little bit, just like how I didn't write the review for it right away other wise I would of be going off just about how it ended.
On top of those I've found at feedbooks: Smolder (Dragon Souls 1) by Penelope Fletcher apparently theres a sequel that should be coming out soon. On smashwords found Unenchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale 1) by Chanda Hahn the other two are not free just so you know.

I've also been asked to review Wind and Shadow by Tori L. Ridgewood so I got a e-book copy courtesy of Bookpr Services.

I bought a full trilogy the other day they are a hardcover books and each one was $11. Time travel, romance, demons sounds cool right. I also like that the cover are the color of the jewel.

Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1)Sapphire Blue (Precious Stone Trilogy, #2)Emerald Green (Precious Stone Trilogy, #3)

I've also been rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. That is before I start reading Law of the Lycan series.

I thought about doing something I saw on another blog a while ago I forget who and I'm not try to steel their idea so if this seems familiar tell me where you've seen it. But I thought I would let you pick one of my next book I read once a week I would list 3 or 4 books and that would be on my reading along with other books for that week that I've picked. These books will manly be books that I keep meaning to get to but find something else to read instead, sometimes you may see the same book often. Let me know what you think.

So the Read-A-Thon I found through another blog that doing it it's a 10 day R.A.T that started yesterday, the 11th, and since I'm going to be reading anyway why not and it'll give me a chance to look at other blogs. Its the Wonderfully Wicked Read-A-Thon and the sign up is open till the 18th. I'll be making an updates post that I'll update each day. And it will have my goals aswell.

More to come, Hope you enjoyed~

Release of An Incurable Insanity

Simi K. Rao’s contemporary romance novel An Incurable Insanity, published by Tate Publishing, will be released on October 8, 2013.

"In Rao's debut novel, an arranged Indian marriage sets the stage for an intimate look at the exasperating madness of love.... An often intoxicating... will-they-or-won't-they tale."- KIRKUS REVIEWS

Shaan is a recent 27 year old aerospace masters grad, who lands the perfect job in a leading aeronautics and space exploration company in Los Angeles. At the urging of his parents' he goes down the traditional arranged marriage route, leaving behind a lover and a complicated relationship in Los Angeles. As a result, Shaan and Ruhi's marriage has an awkward and uncomfortable start. The begrudging spouses make a pact: Ruhi will stay with Shaan in the United States only long enough to avoid embarrassment from their family and peers. Ruhi, remaining optimistic thinks that she can use this time to try and win Shaan's heart, but to no avail. Follow Ruhi and Shaan on a roller coaster ride as they attempt to be “friends without benefits” and expose their true selves to each other in search of love and happiness.

While An Incurable Insanity provides fascinating glimpses into traditional Indian culture, it is an intriguing love story with universal appeal.

Simi K. Rao was born in India and has been living in the United States for several years. The inspiration for An Incurable Insanity came from what she has seen transpire among and within the immigrant community. Some of the experiences included are her own; some have been garnered from friends and casual conversations with acquaintances.

Book excerpt:

"Here... lunch." She pushed a box towards him.
"I don't want it."
"Why?"
"I feel awkward."
"But you never felt that way before, so why now?" You took me for granted. She stared reproachfully at him.
"It's different now." My perspective has changed. I behaved like a slave master, it's humiliating. He stared right back.
She pretended to appear disinterested, "you can eat it, give it to your friends or throw it away. This is all I can do to pay you back right now."
"You don't have to worry about paying me back. It's the least that I can do to make up for what I've put you through."
Her chair knocked sharply against the wall, as she jumped to her feet. "What? You think that's compensation enough? Nothing you do will give me back what I've lost! Yes, I agreed to marry you because I was blind and innocent! But who gave you the right to destroy my life, especially since you were having an affair and there was no hope for us? You treated me as if I was a disposable object! Why? Tell me why?"
"Yes I know I'm the worst kind of cad! But my hands were tied! My grandfather was on his death bed, I had no choice!" He snapped back gripping the counter till his knuckles turned white.
Walking up to him, she said softly, "Yes you had  a choice. You could have walked away. You could have been a man."
